Hot tubs. Even a quick mention of the word conjures up fantasies or images of relaxing in the soft, warm water, bubbly in hand and a movie on a large TV screen. It’s no different on television where you can be anything, anything can happen (and usually does), and everything moves along perfectly (for the viewer, at least).
Well, sort of. Enter 10 famous hot tub scenes you’ll find on television or in the movies. Some moments are funny, others are romantic or sexy, and others are educational. The one thing they all have in common? They’re all amazing hot tub moments.
10 – Two and a Half Men
A hot tub is the perfect companion for womanizing Charlie, and he certainly makes use of it, but he’s not the only one. The evil ex-wife Judith takes time to relax in one and so do several other characters in the show. The show is good, and the hot tub scenes are great (particularly in Always a Bridesmaid, Never a Burro (2006) and Carpet Burns and a Bite Mark (2005)).
9 – Hot Tubs
Want to know the real truth about hot tubs? Want to understand how the trend was born and how it flourished? Then you’ll want to see this 2010 documentary on America’s favorite place to relax. The story starts in the 1970s and looks at how hippies used hot tubs as a way to connect and relax. By the time you reach the end, you’ll have a full understanding and appreciation for the passion.
8 – Slappy and the Stinkers
Kids love hot tubs, too. And if you’re ready for a good laugh, check out the hot tub scene in this 1998 movie. Fair warning: it’s not the kids getting into the school principal’s hot tub for a good time, but a “rescued” seal.
7 – The Price Is Right
Talk about bringing the fun home! Shows like The Price Is Right, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, MANswers, and other game and reality shows likely aren’t the first shows you’d expect to see hot tub, but they certainly seem to make use of them. And whether it was a steamy moment, the opportunity to win one, or trying to make a truck into a hot tub, the audiences loved it.
6 – Dumb and Dumber
The bromance between Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels flourished in the hot tub during this steamy 1994 movie. Who says a heart-shaped hot tub should be reserved for lovers only? They certainly didn’t seem to mind. To avoid any liquid damages or disasters, you may want to avoid drinking anything until the movie is over.
5 – Species
Hot tubs aren’t just for romance. In the 1995 movie, Natasha Henstridge wants to make babies, but there’s one thing standing in her way — her alien genes and her homicidal urges. Want to see more hot tub murder scenes? Check out the 1987 episode of Murder, She Wrote called “The Way to Dusty Death”.
4 – The Simpsons (1989)
Ever wondered if cartoons enjoy hot tubs as much as humans? In an episode entitled “In the Name of the Grandfather”, the Simpons are enjoying their hot tub so much, they forget about Grampa and his special sports day. Feeling guilty because they missed it, they decide to make it up to him by taking him to Ireland where Homer and Grampa buy a pub. (In case you’re wondering, South Park also had a hot tub party in a 1997 episode.)
3 – Tequila Sunrise
Also from the 80s (1988, in fact), there’s more than just water steaming in Tequila Sunrise. In the movie, Mel Gibson and Michelle Pfeifer fall in love and raise each other’s temperatures with a few smooth moves. It’s enough to get the pulse of any hot-blooded female racing.
2 – Fast Times at Ridgemont High
The 1982 film staring Sean Penn and Jennifer Jason Lee focused on a pair of typical 80s California teens. Of course that means rebellious activities and lots of that ‘evil’ rock ‘n’ roll. In the movie, however, a hot tub sets the scene for Penn’s fantasy with two gorgeous girls in bikinis. Even if guys hate the movie, their eyes will be glued to the TV during this scene.
1 – Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)
Those passionate about spas often say they can take you to another time and place, but in the movies, they really do. Literally. Hot Tub Time Machine, staring John Cusack, Rob Corddry, and Craig Robinson, is an entire movie dedicated to the topic. The three men climb into a beautiful hot tub, only to discover they were whisked back to 1986.
